For
some, it is hard to make good breadcrumbs for baking. This recipe shows
you how.
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
Remove and discard the crusts from stale
(but not moldy) bread.
Place crusts on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes; about halfway through, turn them over so they
dry evenly.
Remove from oven and let cool.
Grind dried bread in an electric blender
or food processor. If you only have a small amount of bread to crumble,
place the dried bread in a plastic bag and crush it with a rolling pin
until the crumbs are the desired texture. Another way to make larger bread
crumbs is rub them on a frying screen over a piece of waxed paper to catch
them.
Dry bread crumbs stored in an airtight
container will keep indefinitely.
P.S.
Make bread
crumbs from left-over
croissants.
If you have a stale one, freeze it first; it will make it easier
. If you have a stale one, freeze it first; it will make it easier to
make into crumbs. To make them, hit the side of the bag with a rolling
pin. Top gratins or pasta dishes. The butter in the croissant crumbs makes
for a crisp topping and a nice texture.
